Browse enough seating catalogues and you learn the pattern: collections hedge. A bare polypropylene version for budgets, an upholstered one for lobbies. Saari by Arper refuses the hedge: no bare version exists. Chair, armchair in two sizes, two- and three-seat sofas, bench, ottoman — every piece carries a fully upholstered shell, by definition. Softness here is not a trim level; it is the identity of the collection.
The design is Lievore Altherr Molina's, from 2009: sculptural bodies on four-leg bases, with castors available where the room needs to move. Upholstery spans three families — fabric, leather and coated fabric — across a wide colour palette, and Arper declares the collection at home in restaurants, hotels, lobbies and offices alike. In 2022 the public gave it the People's Choice at the AZ Awards.
La Mercanti configures US projects zone by zone — typologies, sizes, upholstery — with a checked quotation on the floor plan before anything is confirmed.
