Bespoke: size, colour, finish

Specification writers in the US ask one question about a bathroom floor before any other: what is the DCOF? Aurore answers with margin — 0.74 measured, against the 0.42 threshold the code asks for, plus barefoot class C and R11 in the European ratings, all declared by Mutina. Then it does something rarer: it makes those numbers beautiful. Vincent Van Duysen, the Belgian architect on Mutina's design team since 2022, drew the 2025 collection from children's chalk grids on sidewalks — fine light and dark lines over grounds that seem to fade with time.

The material is glazed porcelain stoneware in an 8×8 inch (20.5×20.5 cm) square, 9.5 mm thick, in four colors — Charcoal, Light Grey, Light Blue, Light Green — each as a solid plus Grid S and Grid L patterns. The glaze carries micronised glass-ceramics: anti-glare, soft under bare feet, and still slip-resistant. Water absorption is 0.07%, stain resistance is class 5, acid resistance class A — the housekeeping numbers a facilities manager actually lives with.

From the executive washroom to the roof deck

Declared use runs floor and wall, indoor and outdoor, frost-proof to ISO 10545/12: one palette can carry an executive-floor restroom, the wellness room, the coffee point and the terrace outside it. Twelve references combine tone-on-tone or in contrast, and the recommended 2 mm joint keeps the grid honest. FAQ

What does DCOF 0.74 actually buy me in a commercial restroom?
Headroom. US practice references a minimum wet DCOF of 0.42 for level interior floors expected to get wet; Aurore's declared 0.74 clears it with a wide margin, alongside European ratings R11 and barefoot class C. That lets one tile serve restroom floors, shower areas and wellness rooms without switching to a rougher, harder-to-clean product just for the wet zone.
Is an 8x8 square practical for large commercial floors?
It changes the economics of pattern, not the practicality: 23.88 pieces per square meter lay a fine-grained grid that reads as a drawn surface, and the non-rectified edge with a 2 mm joint is faster to lay well than tight rectified work. Mix tiles from several boxes, as Mutina recommends, and the minimal V2 shade variation evens out across the field.
How does it hold up to cleaning chemicals and stains over years?
The declared numbers are the strongest in their class: stain resistance class 5, resistance to acids and bases class A, household chemicals class A, absorption 0.07%. Routine care is a porcelain-specific detergent in water; the datasheet on this page also lists end-of-site cleaning products by grout type.
Can the same tile go outside to a terrace in a freeze-thaw climate?
Yes, by declaration: indoor and outdoor use, frost resistance to ISO 10545/12 and thermal shock to ISO 10545/9. Projects in northern states can run the same Charcoal or Light Grey grid from the interior to a roof deck, which is exactly how Van Duysen intends the collection to be read - one drawing, no threshold break.
What paperwork supports a LEED submission?
Mutina declares 20% recycled content under LEED 4.1; EPD, VOC emissions, Declaration of Contents and SVHC declaration are available on request, and La Mercanti collects the set for your submittal. Product certificates are downloadable from this page, and samples are billed with the cost fully credited at order confirmation.

Specifying a barefoot-safe washroom that still looks drawn by hand

Five moves for US architects and facility teams using Aurore across executive restrooms, wellness rooms and terraces - with the numbers ready for the submittal.

Start from the wet-zone code numbers
Put DCOF 0.74, barefoot class C and R11 into the spec first. When the slip data clears code with margin, the design conversation stays about design.
Choose the color story per floor
Charcoal reads formal for executive levels, Light Grey and Light Blue read wellness. Solid fields plus Grid S or Grid L give each room its own density without leaving the palette.
Plan the grid like a drawing
Lay out tone-on-tone or contrast pairings on the room plan - Mutina's boards pair Charcoal with Light Blue Grid L. Decide grout color early: at a 2 mm joint it is a visible line.
Sample under the building's light
The glass-ceramic glaze is anti-glare and shifts with raking light. Judge samples in place; sample costs are fully credited when the order is confirmed.
Bundle lot, freight and install data
Calibre is declared per production lot - request it in advance. La Mercanti consolidates quantities, boxes and documentation with your GC so the field crew gets one clean package.
