Mosaic floors usually mean compromise — pretty sheets rated for walls, pressed into floor duty. Botanica was born the other way: Mutina calls it the first mosaic in its collection designed specifically for the floor. The numbers follow the claim: the wax-matt finish declares DCOF 0.52 against the 0.42 threshold, R9 and DIN 51097 B, with stain class 5 and 0.2% absorption. The super glossy twin (DCOF 0.31 declared) takes the walls — an honest split the datasheet states instead of hiding.

Tokujin Yoshioka (2022) shaped two organic elements — Seed, a soft hexagon, and Flower, a five-petal bloom — sold exclusively on 9×16 inch nets that interlock invisibly, running floors up walls in one skin. Two colours (White, Grey), and grout as a stated design variable: the catalogue pairs White with terracotta, green or cerulean, Grey with electric blue or pink. Class A resistance to acids and swimming-pool chemicals, frost proof, 24% recycled content — the highest declared in the Mutina range we carry.

Where it earns the spec

Amenity floors and spa walls, executive washrooms, reception backdrops, covered pool surrounds, indoor and outdoor. Flat, dry substrates; 3 mm joints; grout cleaned before drying. Certificates download from this page.

FAQ

What does «designed for floors» change versus ordinary mosaic?
Everything the datasheet can measure: the wax-matt finish declares DCOF 0.52 - clear of the 0.42 threshold for level interior floors that get wet - plus R9, DIN 51097 B, stain class 5 and 9 mm porcelain thickness. Ordinary wall mosaics pressed into floor duty rarely publish those numbers. And the split is honest: the super glossy version declares DCOF 0.31, so it is specified for walls and dry floors, not hidden behind marketing.
Is it suitable for pool surrounds and spa amenity spaces?
Chemically, yes by explicit declaration - class A resistance to acids, bases, household agents and swimming-pool chemicals, with 0.2% absorption and frost resistance for outdoor runs. For wet barefoot traffic the matt declares DIN 51097 B; final zone-by-zone qualification belongs to the designer with the datasheet from this page. Rule of thumb: matt underfoot, glossy on the feature wall behind the water.
How does the net system perform at install time?
Fast and clean if two sheet rules are respected: substrates perfectly flat and dry - mosaic shows every hump - and grout wiped before it dries. Sheets are roughly 9x16 inches, five per box covering 5.2 sq ft, and the organic edges interlock so joints between sheets disappear. One skin can run the floor and climb the wall, as the manufacturer intends.
What does the 24% recycled content mean for a LEED submittal?
It is the highest declared recycled figure in the Mutina range we carry, stated under LEED 4.1, with EPD, VOC emissions, Declaration of Contents and SVHC declaration available on request through La Mercanti. For amenity spaces chasing credits, the mosaic contributes real, documented percentages rather than vibes.
How much does grout colour change the result?
More than on any square tile: a 3 mm joint surrounds every organic element, so grout is effectively the second color. Mutina's catalogue makes it official - White with terracotta, green or cerulean; Grey with electric blue or pink; classic white or dark grey for calm. Ask La Mercanti for grout mock-ups on your finish schedule; sample costs are fully credited at order confirmation.

An amenity floor that survives the slip test

Five moves for US architects and hospitality teams specifying Yoshioka's floor-born mosaic across spas, washrooms and pool surrounds.

Lead with the floor numbers
Wax-matt: DCOF 0.52, R9, DIN 51097 B, stain class 5 - declared values that clear amenity-floor review. Put them in the spec first.
Keep glossy vertical
Super glossy (DCOF 0.31 declared) is the wall finish: behind reception, above the vanity, around the pool at eye level. Same color, two finishes, one palette.
Choose Seed or Flower per space
Seed reads cellular and calm, Flower reads blooming. One geometry per room keeps the landscape coherent.
Treat grout as a finish selection
Terracotta, green, cerulean on White; electric blue or pink on Grey. Approve a grouted mock-up, not a dry sample.
Order in nets, install by the sheet
Five nets per box (5.2 sq ft); flat dry substrate, 3 mm joints, grout off before drying. La Mercanti runs quantities and freight with your GC.
