Two footprints, one desk. The single Cloud modern desk is 79 × 39 inches, a rectangle that fits a corner office with room for two guest chairs. Order it with the lateral cabinet and the plan changes shape: 102 inches along the long side and 83 inches deep, an L-shaped desk that puts storage and a second work surface at the executive's left or right without adding a separate credenza. Codutti lists both versions with a wooden top or a tempered-glass top, so the choice of size and the choice of material are made separately, on the same order line.

The collection comes from Codutti, the Italian maker of executive furniture since 1954, on drawings by Robby Cantarutti and Paolo Martinig, and the vocabulary is kept short: glass, leather and wood, a structure in several finishes with every part available in leather, feet in tempered glass. Around the desk, sideboards 71 or 96 inches wide, meeting tables of 110 and 165 inches and three coffee tables. La Mercanti USA delivers the whole set nationwide with white-glove installation, and draws the L version first of all: 43 extra inches of depth are a question for the architect before they are a question for the buyer.

FAQ

What did the designers look at when they drew Cloud?
Codutti says it in one line: the collection is inspired by the architecture of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Carlo Scarpa. From the first comes the calm horizontal plane, from the second the care in how one material meets another. The maker calls the result a tribute to the tradition of design, revisited in a modern key.
Can I have the same desk with a wooden top instead of glass?
Yes. Every Cloud desk and every Cloud meeting table is listed twice, once with a tempered-glass top and once with a wooden top, at the same dimensions. The structure, the leather cladding and the tempered-glass feet do not change; only the surface you work on does.
Is there a taller storage piece in the collection?
The four-door sideboard exists in two heights: 30 1/4 in, like the three-door model, and 45 1/4 in, both 96 in wide and 23 in deep. The taller one is the closest thing Cloud has to a cabinet and is usually placed against the wall facing the desk.
What does Upper Level mean on the Codutti site?
It is the name Codutti gives to its executive range, the collections meant for the private office rather than the open plan. Cloud sits there with Mithos, AlfaOmega, Genesis and the others; the operative collections, Attiva and Team, are the ones it pairs with on the same floor.
Why does Codutti describe Cloud as immediately understandable?
Because the design does not need explaining: a top, a structure, feet, and three materials you can name at a glance. Codutti calls it formal simplicity and says it is the result of a long process of research and synthesis, which is a polite way of saying that removing things is harder than adding them.

How to put together the order file for a Cloud desk

A complete order file is what lets La Mercanti USA confirm a Cloud desk in one exchange with the factory instead of three. Five documents, one folder.

Name every Cloud piece
List the items by function, not by photo: desk, lateral cabinet if any, modesty panel, sideboard, meeting table, coffee tables. Each is a separate line in Codutti's price list, and each needs its own top and finish.
Write the top for each piece
For the Cloud desk and for each meeting table write «glass» or «wood». The two are different items at the factory, and a missing word here is the most common reason an order comes back with a question.
Attach the finish samples you approved
Structure finish and, if you chose it, the leather cladding are confirmed on physical samples. Photograph the approved samples with their labels and add the picture to the file; La Mercanti keeps the originals.
Add the floor plan with the door
The plan you taped or drew tells the installers which side the lateral cabinet goes and where the sideboard stands. Mark the door swing and the outlets: it is the only page the crew reads on site.
Give the delivery details once
Building name, freight elevator dimensions, loading dock hours, certificate of insurance requirements. La Mercanti USA sends the Cloud order to Codutti only when this page is complete, so the confirmed date is a real one.
