The AlfaOmega catalog asks it twice: «Writing desk or control room? Writing desk or soundbox?» The answer is Soundoffice, a stereo system that lives inside the desk. Two loudspeakers rated 20 W at 8 ohm with a 95-22,000 Hz response sit under the top, in the position the catalog calls optimal for whoever is seated; a hi-fi amplifier covers 20-20,000 Hz. Touch buttons on the leather desk pad handle on and off, volume and incoming calls, so a phone conversation runs hands-free through the desk itself. Devices connect by 3.5 mm mini-jack or Bluetooth, and the power cables run from the speaker compartment through the ducting between the two crosspieces and down a leather-covered container on one leg. The sound, says Codutti, «seems to come from the walls, the ceiling, the floor».

Soundoffice fits either line of the modern collection. Alfa is the hi-tech one: 3/8 in tempered glass tops lacquered white or black, legs in embossed or carbon leather, chrome details. Omega is the classic one: ebony or walnut dyed oak, saddle-stitched leather, black glass. Around the desk — offered with an L-shaped return up to 121 in wide — the same catalog furnishes meeting tables for six to eighteen, cabinets with a built-in safe or refrigerator, bookcases and the Coupè chair, all under Codutti's five-year guarantee. For US offices La Mercanti confirms the power outlet position next to the leg before the desk ships, because a control room without a socket is only a desk.

FAQ

What sizes does the desk come in?
Three widths, 70 7/8, 82 5/8 or 94 1/2 in, by 39 3/8 in deep and 29 1/2 in high. With the return the width goes to 82 1/4, 94 1/8, 105 7/8 or 121 5/8 in at 82 5/8 in deep; corner layouts measure 91 3/4, 103 1/2 or 115 3/8 in by 86 5/8 in.
Two shells, one leg: how is the AlfaOmega column built?
Two shells of curved plywood, 1 3/16 in thick, covered in thick leather and joined in the center by two lacquered inserts on Alfa or two oak inserts on Omega. A chrome-plated band at the bottom carries the adjustable feet.
Is there a leather that does not need stitching?
Yes, on Alfa: the catalog states that the leather covering of the Alfa legs «does not require the use of stitches», in white embossed, black embossed or carbon. On Omega the legs are saddle-stitched by hand in millemiglia or plum red.
Which meeting table is right for a board of twelve?
The catalog lists the modular table on three columns for fourteen, the oval on three columns for fourteen, or the modular on two columns for ten plus a 90° connector for two more. Every version keeps the chrome-plated band between tops and the central cable insert.
Does the collection include a guarantee?
Codutti prints a five-year guarantee on the cover of the 2025 price list. It excludes normal wear and items modified by the customer or third parties, and defects must be reported in writing within eight days of receipt.

How to receive an AlfaOmega desk in an office that stays open

Five steps to bring an AlfaOmega desk into a working floor without closing the corner office for a week.

Book the elevator window
Give La Mercanti the hours when the freight elevator and the corridor are free: an AlfaOmega desk with return is 82 5/8 in deep and arrives in several crates, the widest top at 94 1/2 in.
Measure the route before the crates
Door widths, elevator depth and every turn in the corridor go to the carrier in advance; the glass or veneered top is the longest single piece and decides the path.
Prepare the space the day before
Flooring finished, outlets in place where the leg with the cable duct will stand, and the area behind the chair empty before the first crate comes through the door.
Assemble in one session
Sides, crosspieces, top, legs and back panel are set on the same visit; the drawer unit and the equipped extension follow in the same pass so the office is usable that evening.
Sign off while the floor works
After assembly, check the top level and the cable route with the installer while the rest of the floor keeps working; the report goes to La Mercanti the same day.
