When Hospitality Design gave Puzzle its HD Award in 2017 — a year after Best of Year — the jury was recognizing what hotel and workplace designers had already noticed: a tile system built for front-of-house. Reception floors, lobby walls, café corners: Barber & Osgerby's first collection for Mutina composes graphic identity out of glazed porcelain, and because patterns land «like maps, islands or clouds», the same five families never produce the same lobby twice.
The specification reads reassuringly for high-traffic America: DCOF 0.68 against the 0.42 threshold, stain resistance class 5, ASTM-tested frost resistance for the patio and a U4 breaking-load class under a full 14 mm body. Each family — Aland, Skye, Anglesey, Creta, Murano — carries six patterns, three plains and two Edge designs in one 25×25 format, with five surface textures that read as hand-painted rather than printed.
From check-in to terrace
The practical move is continuity: pattern concentrated at the entry sequence, plains through the working floor, Edge tiles framing the coffee point, and the same material running onto the outdoor terrace. With 20% pre-consumer recycled content declared for LEED v4.1 and VOC class A+, Puzzle files cleanly into sustainability paperwork. Datasheet and certificates download from this page.
