Read enough furniture manuals and you notice they never argue with their own features. ICF's does. On this task chair, the DuoChair lever on the left locks the backrest upright and limits its travel to three intermediate positions, and the manual then states plainly: we suggest you avoid locking the tilting mechanism, so the back is supported constantly rather than held in one attitude.
It is a small sentence with a large consequence for a US fit-out. A locked backrest turns a synchronised chair into a fixed one — the conference chair it was not meant to be —, and the mechanism here is built to do the opposite: the counter-thrust rises in proportion to the force you apply, so movement is the feature, not the failure. If someone still wants control, the tension knob under the front of the seat sets how firm that return feels. Forward tilt can be ordered and disengaged. La Mercanti specifies the chair for American projects with the manufacturer's own documentation attached, footnotes included.
