The frame never changes. What changes on a DR designer desk is the top, and the top decides the rest: walnut veneer with a solid walnut edge, painted or smoked glass, or a white Calacatta-finish stoneware slab laid over a glass under-top. Claudio Bellini designed the structure for Frezza in solid wood, lacquered white, lacquered anthracite or left in dark walnut, and the catalogue treats the three tops as three characters of the same desk. Even the height follows: 29.3 inches with the wooden top, 28.7 with glass, because the top thickness is part of the proportion, not something to hide.
For an American executive floor that is a useful way to specify. The A&D team can hold one frame across several offices and let the top change from the CEO room to the partners' offices, keeping the round meeting tables and cabinets in the same family. La Mercanti ships DR from Italy with the finish schedule already written per room, so the installer receives frames, tops and Frezza units labeled by destination. Stone, glass and wood arrive as one order, and one conversation.
