On the electrified Asymmetrical the black leather pad is not glued down. It is hinged: lift it and the outlets are underneath, in a kit with a black cover that Tecno supplies for the right-hand or the left-hand desk; plug in, lower the pad, and the surface is whole again, with nothing sticking out of it. No tower, no flip-up box in a different color, no cable tray under the edge of a luxury executive desk. The 1AS4821, 4831 and 4841 desks come prepared for the kit; the basic 1AS4811 keeps a fixed pad and, if asked, a chromed grommet instead. Piero Lissoni drew the executive desk in 2006 as a thick top floating over one solid cabinet, and the pad that lifts is how the power gets in without breaking that picture.
Everything else is a price-list line: sizes 95.3 × 53.25, 107 × 78.75 and 121 × 78.75 in at 29.5 in high; a 2.75 in top; a cabinet finished on both faces that Tecno asks you to keep away from the wall; fourteen lacquer colors, matt or gloss, and ten veneers, coded separately for top and cabinet. Asymmetrical Meeting, the conference table of the range, and the Solenoids tables share those codes. La Mercanti confirms with the order which desks take the kit and which keep the fixed pad, because the two versions look identical until the pad is lifted.
