Design prizes are usually handed down by juries; this one was handed up. At the AZ Awards 2022, the People's Choice went to Mixu — readers, users and planners voting for the chair they would actually sit in. It is a fitting prize for a design born inside the world's workplaces: Arper drew the collection in 2021 in collaboration with Gensler, and renewed it with the 2025 edition. Fully upholstered seat and back on this designer chair — Elmosoft leather or Valencia coated fabric on the seat, a different material on the back, down to the client's own fabric — on four legs in chromed or powder-coated steel or solid oak, plus stools at 27.4 and 31.3 inches of seat height. No glue anywhere: the cover separates and gets replaced by technical personnel. La Mercanti ships the crowd favourite to American dining rooms, home offices and hotel bars — itemised line by line.

FAQ

What are the stool seat heights?
Two declared heights: 27.4 inches (69.5 cm) for kitchen islands and 31.3 inches (79.5 cm) for full-height bars — both fully upholstered like the chair.
Can the cover be replaced years from now?
Yes — it is applied without glue, so technical personnel can separate and replace it. The chair changes fabric instead of being replaced.
Which seat materials are declared?
Two: Elmosoft leather or Valencia coated fabric. The backrest takes a different material from the Arper portfolio — or the client's own fabric.
How does the chair arrive?
Disassembled — Arper declares it as a choice that cuts volume and the environmental load of transport; assembly is planned into the delivery.
Is there recycled content inside?
Yes: the internal components are declared as partially made of post-industrial recycled plastic, and the whole chair disassembles at end of life.

How to split Mixu between dining room, island and bar

One silhouette, three heights, in inches: five steps from floor plan to order list.

Count seats per level
Dining tables take the Mixu chair; kitchen islands the 27.4-inch stool; full bars the 31.3-inch version.
Fix one leg family per room
Powder-coated steel for the technical register, solid oak for the warm one — never both in the same room.
Assign materials to duty
Coated fabric where rotation is high, leather where guests linger; the backrest can mark zones with a second shade.
Write the surcharge upfront
Two shades on one chair carry a declared surcharge: put it on the quote from version one.
