The finish is what you see; the brass is what the water sees. Fantini’s catalog lists AL/23 among its “lead free” brass series and says what the phrase stands for: in keeping with NSF/ANSI 372, the lavatory faucet surfaces that touch drinking water hold no more than 0.25% lead. Nobody washing their hands will ever notice. The person who signs the specification will, and it is a better place to begin a faucet than the color.
What Piero Lissoni put around that brass is why AL/23 belongs with designer faucets: a slender vertical cylinder on a round base, a flat spout, a flat lever riding just above it. Aboutwater, the collection it comes from, is a joint effort between Boffi and Fantini. At the lavatory the single-hole faucet has a 4.7 in reach, or 6.7 in with the extended spout; a three-hole set trades the lever for two quarter-turn handles; tall models exist for both. Bound for a primary suite or an executive bathroom, it is the same body in chrome or in matte black.
Sort the remaining pieces by how much of each ends up behind the tile. With the bidet faucet and the deck-mount tub set, nothing does. The wall-mount lavatory faucet and the built-in shower mixers, whether they feed one outlet or three, are each specified twice, as visible trim and as a body that stays in the wall; the floor-mount tub filler, with its 7.9 in spout, is split the same way. What stays in view in the shower is a thermostatic control, a round stainless-steel rain head 9.4 in across, a body spray and the FIT wand on its hose. Drains, a bottle trap and flush plates go on the same schedule. La Mercanti puts Fantini’s material statement into the submittal package, next to the cut sheets.

A matte black matched to RAL 9005. In Fantini’s order codes it is finish 13, written ahead of the item number, and it is one of only two finishes the line is made in; the other is chrome.
Three of them: the single-hole faucet, the two-hole set and the three-hole set with two handles. The tall single-hole has a 6.7 in reach; the tall two-hole and three-hole models reach 6.3 in, exactly like their standard versions.
The spout projects 7.9 in. Fantini builds the wall-mount faucet two ways, as a single-lever set or as three pieces with a pair of quarter-turn handles, and La Mercanti orders the trim together with its in-wall body.
All three built-in shower mixers (one outlet, two, or three), the 3/4″ thermostatic valve without diverter, and the 3/4″ stop valve ordered with it. “Soundproof” is the manufacturer’s own word; no rating is published alongside it.
Yes. Fantini’s instructions show the cartridge of the single-lever faucets and the ceramic valves of the three-hole set as replaceable parts, reassembled in reverse order. The aerator can be changed too.
AL/23 has two thermostatic setups: one valve with a built-in diverter, or a valve plus a stop valve for each outlet. Five steps to pick and order the right one.
Write down the outlets first: the 9.4 in rain head, the FIT hand shower, the body spray. The thermostatic valve that has its own diverter handles two or three of them.
The 3/4″ thermostatic valve with rotary diverter mounts horizontally only. One knob sets temperature. The other, turned right from center, opens the first outlet; turned left, the second and then the third; back at center it shuts off.
The 3/4″ thermostatic valve without diverter is, in Fantini’s words, always ordered with the stop valve: one 3/4″ stop valve, a quarter-turn ceramic type, for each outlet on the wall.
Easy Fix System is an optional plate with fittings that sets the thermostatic valve and its stop valves in a row, horizontal or vertical. One item covers one or two outlets, another covers three.
Trim is ordered with two digits ahead of the item number, 02 for chrome or 13 for matte black. The built-in bodies have a code of their own with no finish digits; the installer needs both lines.
