Paolo Pampanoni — the designer who never moved to the design district

Italian design has a centre of gravity, and it is not Assisi. Paolo Pampanoni built his practice there anyway, and in 2017 founded D+A with a stated purpose: invest in his own region, back local professionals, and refuse the migration toward the country's design districts. The studio sits in a converted supermarket in Petrignano di Assisi; the work travels instead. His method has a name — performance-based design, where every choice answers a performance the client requested.
