A Genesis designer desk normally stands on four independent legs cast in polished aluminum. Codutti offers a second way to build it: take two of those legs away and put a bridge in their place, a structural return 1 9/16 in thick in veneered wood, joined to the sides at 45 degrees and finished with a chromed steel strip along the floor. The desk becomes an L, 79.1, 90.9 or 96.9 in wide by 85 in deep, with the work top on one side and the return on the other, and the price list treats it as a single desk, not as a desk plus an add-on.
Which way to go depends on the room, not on taste: four legs keep the desk free to stand anywhere, the bridge fixes its orientation and gives a corner office its second surface. Both carry the same tops, oak veneer in wengé or natural, 1/2 in tempered glass, or thick leather saddle-stitched by hand, and the same family around them: drawer units, mobile extensions, bookcases, cabinets in 17.7 and 35.4 in modules and meeting tables up to 220.5 in. The collection is by the architect Tiziano Dainese with Valuenet associati, and Codutti's price list backs it with five years of warranty. La Mercanti asks for the floor plan before quoting a Genesis, because the bridge decides which way the desk faces and that decision is made once.
