American specifications usually ask a chair two questions: who tested it, and to what weight. se:mission answers both on one certificate. TÜV Rheinland LGA Products issued the GS mark for the whole conference swivel chair series under DIN 4573 and DIN EN 16139, the European standard for non-domestic seating, and states that every test was carried out up to a user weight of 287 pounds — 130 kg. The gas cartridge is separately rated: SHS type SG, EN 16955 class 4, with mechanical damping.

The chair behind those papers is a Sedus conference seat upholstered on every face, drawn by Volker Eysing. One molding of recycled polypropylene, reinforced with glass fiber, forms seat, backrest and armrests; pocket springs sit under the seat foam; the DuoMotion mechanism runs a tilting action and a flexible backrest together. Backrests come in three heights — 22 in, 28 in and 33 7/8 in, codes MI-201 through MI-203 — and bases in two: aluminum with four arms on glides for conference, guest and waiting seating, aluminum with five arms on casters at an executive workstation, with fixed, gas-lift or self-returning seat elevation. On a US order La Mercanti writes the chair the way it will be built: backrest code, base, elevation, four covers. Five lines, no adjectives.

FAQ

What user weight is the chair rated for?

Sedus recommends se:mission up to 287 lb (130 kg), and the GS certificate records that every DIN EN 16139 and DIN 4573 test was carried out at that weight rather than at a lower figure.

Does the chair have a low-emission certificate?

It holds GREENGUARD certification under UL 2818. Seating is modeled in a room with a ventilation rate of 24.8 m³ per hour and tested to ANSI/BIFMA M7.1, with compliance to X7.1 and to ANSI/BIFMA e3-2019 credit 7.6.1.

Does the chair arrive assembled?

Yes: it ships in carton packaging, fully assembled. Nothing is put together on site, which is what makes a delivery into an occupied floor straightforward.

Which upholstery combinations are allowed?

Leather and faux leather combine with each other and with every fabric collection. Two different fabric collections cannot be combined on the same chair; colors inside one collection can.

What are the footprint numbers for a table layout?

26 3/8 in across on glides, 27 1/8 in on casters, and the seat sits between 16 1/2 and 20 in. Overall height follows whichever backrest is ordered.

How to order upholstery for se:mission

Five steps from the four upholstered surfaces to a purchase order that cannot be misread.

List the four surfaces

Seat cushion, inner backrest, outer backrest, side panels: se:mission takes a separate reference for each, so a single fabric name is never a complete order.

Decide what the panel is made of

The side panel can leave the fabric list altogether: reinforced polypropylene, natural or anthracite oak, natural walnut, or a covered insert.

Check the combination rule before the samples

Leather and faux leather mix with anything; two fabric collections do not mix. Knowing that first saves a round of samples.

Ask for the fire-retardant version by name

It exists with Umber or Step fabrics only, so it is specified as a version and not as a note at the end of the order.

Put codes next to names on the order

Each surface carries its own reference; writing the code beside the fabric name is what keeps the outer backrest from arriving in the color of the seat.
