The side of an iSixty executive desk is two objects fitted together. Codutti describes it as «a double shell in plywood: the outer shell is veneered in ash, while the inner one is covered in thin or thick leather», with a rounded conical form and «flush elements in chrome-plated or 24 carat gold-plated metal» at the points where the two shells join. The visitor sees ash, in corda, tabacco or silicio; the person sitting at the desk sees leather, dove grey, cream or black in the Avantgarde world, gold or silver in Luxury. The metal band is the seam between the two, and in Luxury it is plated in 24-karat gold.
The shell is also a container: it houses the cable ducting, the loudspeakers when Soundoffice is fitted and, on request, a secretaire drawer with an electronic lock. Above it, a three-section top 2 3/8 in thick in ash-veneered MDF with a leather center; around it, PC-equipped return extensions, meeting tables that seat six and up to nineteen, three families of bookcase, a bar cabinet with a fridge and the Diamond chair with its hollowed armrest, all under a five-year guarantee from Codutti. When the desk goes to an American office, La Mercanti ships the ash sample and the leather sample as one piece, cut from the same side, because that seam is what the client is buying.
