Trade terms for professionals and design studios

Anyone who has specified guest chairs for a lobby knows the argument: castors roll well on carpet and badly on stone, a swivel is welcome at a meeting table and a nuisance at a reception desk, and a fixed chair looks composed until somebody has to slide it back. i 4 Mariani answers by keeping the tub shell of Sella and changing only what holds it up – castors with a gas lift and tilt, a fixed-height four-star base that swivels and returns to position, or plain glides at 84 cm overall. Three line items, one silhouette.

That matters on a floor plan that has to read as one project. The same drawing continues into the lounge armchair at 34″ wide, the two-seater at 57″, the conference chair and the executive chair, and three tables whose sides are wrapped in the same hide as the seats. Ludovica+Roberto Palomba drew it in 2024 for a firm that has been upholstering in Brianza for decades. La Mercanti puts the whole package on one quotation and ships it to the site.

FAQ

Are the covers removable for cleaning?
No. The manufacturer states the covers are not removable, on the fabric versions as well as the leather ones: the upholstery is worked onto the shell and stays there.
What are the dimensions of the lounge armchair?
Thirty-four inches and a quarter wide, twenty-nine and an eighth deep, twenty-eight and three quarters high, with the seat at fifteen and three quarters.
Who designed the collection, and when?
Ludovica+Roberto Palomba, in 2024, for i 4 Mariani. The same studio also signed the Siena executive desk in the company's catalog.
Can a table be finished to match the seating?
Yes: the upper top can be lacquered to any leather color, and the lower top is always lacquered to match the leather used on the sides.
How is the leather looked after?
Dusting and a soft dry cloth handle ordinary use; anything stronger depends on the leather line chosen, and we confirm the manufacturer's instruction for that specific hide before it ships.

How to take Sella from a sample to a specification

Five steps an architect or a facilities team can follow to write Sella into a project document, using what i 4 Mariani publishes.

Ask for the hides, not a swatch card
Request the Sella leather references you are actually considering, in a piece large enough to fold: grain reads differently flat and curved.
Say where fabric is allowed
Only the sofa and the lounge armchair take a textile: every swivel Sella in the schedule is written in leather.
Fix the finish of the metal
Polished or matte black. Once that choice is written next to the Sella code, every later delivery matches the first one.
Name the tops separately
Lacquer, marble or walnut on the upper surface of the Sella tables; the lower one follows the leather. Two lines in the document, no ambiguity.
Record the seat heights
Fifteen and three quarters on the lounge pieces, eighteen and a half upward on the swivel versions: the numbers belong in the drawing, not in an email.
