Neri&Hu: an American Academy laurel for a Shanghai practice

Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu, founders of Neri&Hu design studio

In 2025 the American Academy of Arts and Letters handed its Award in Architecture to Neri&Hu — a rare institutional embrace for a practice based in Shanghai. America had seen them coming: Interior Design magazine inducted the duo into its Hall of Fame back in 2013. Founded in 2006 by Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu, the office moves from masterplanning to furniture, branding and light, guided by one ethos — experience, detail, material, form and light.

Their product shelf reads like a world atlas: Fritz Hansen, ClassiCon, Cassina, Poltrona Frau, Moooi, De La Espada. For U.S. clients building offices and hospitality spaces with La Mercanti, that shelf is the benchmark: Italian manufacturing chosen the way the academies choose — on discipline, not on noise.
