Michael Anastassiades: MoMA, Chicago, Saint Louis — three US museums keep his work

American institutions rarely agree this fast: the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, plus the Saint Louis Art Museum, all hold work by Michael Anastassiades — and Herman Miller puts him into production. Cypriot-born, London-based since founding his studio in 1994, trained as a civil engineer at Imperial College before the Royal College of Art, he builds everything artisanally in natural finishes, no protective lacquers — objects meant to age in the open.

Stateside, La Mercanti brings his hand from Italy twice over: Mutina ceramics underfoot, Fantini taps at the washbasin.
