From Marfa to Chicago: Claesson Koivisto Rune in American collections
American design audiences met Claesson Koivisto Rune twice. First as architects: the inde/Jacobs gallery in Marfa, Texas, completed in 2015 in the town that Donald Judd turned into a destination. Then as designers: their work entered two American museum holdings, at the Art Institute of Chicago and at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. The Stockholm partnership, run since 1995 by the three architects whose surnames it carries, works across buildings, interiors and objects without separating them – which is why a gallery and a chair take the same signature and neither looks borrowed.
Among the manufacturers they draw for is Frezza, and that collaboration produced Radar: eight related pieces, from a 34.6" wide executive chair to a two-seater sofa and low tables. US specifications draw on the whole family through La Mercanti, from the private office through to the waiting area.
