Karim Rashid works out of New York, and it shows

Karim Rashid runs his studio from New York, and the city is all over his American work: the Morimoto restaurant, the Jean-Georges market, residential projects for the Related Group in Miami. Born in Cairo in 1960 and trained in Canada, he built a practice that treats a chair and a hotel lobby as the same problem. The American Prize for Design named him for lifetime achievement, the IDSA gave him its excellence award, and the Brooklyn Museum keeps his objects, and so do the permanent design collections in New York and Paris.
