American offices raised their benches years before their chairs caught up. The counter version of se:flex closes that gap with a longer gas lift on a die-cast aluminum base, a footring of Ø 19⅝ inches that adjusts between 11¾ and 19¾ inches, and a seat that travels from 24¾ to 34⅝ inches. The footring tread is brushed aluminum, ¾ inch wide, and the castors are the reverse of the usual: they brake when the chair is empty and free themselves when someone sits, so a standing-height chair never rolls away from the person about to use it.
Everything above the base is the same ergonomic task chair Judith Daur drew for the Sedus Design Team: a Similar mechanism that senses the sitter’s weight between 500 and 1,500 N and tunes the backrest without a knob, a flex element that lets the back follow sideways movement, and a choice of mesh membrane in five colors or slim upholstery with an anthracite rear. The counter chair keeps a fixed seat depth of 16¾ inches and is rated for users up to 243 lb.
Below the bench, the family covers every other desk: the desk-height chair on a plastic or aluminum base, a four-leg guest chair that stacks in fives, and a cantilever model for the conference room, the two backs shared across all of them. It lets the seat itself move in three dimensions: forward and back, sideways, and with a gentle rotation, while the backrest keeps its automatic weight adjustment. A lever switches the effect between strong and weak, pulled out for strong, pushed in for weak. Sedus offers it alone or together with ComfortSwitch, though not on the high version.
Two ways. With the pads parallel the inside width is 18⅞ in; with the pads swiveled, 40° inward or 20° outward, the distance between their front edges runs from 13⅜ to 23⅝ in. Height moves 4 in and depth 1⅝ in. The 4D armrest instead rotates its pad a full 360° and adjusts in height over 7⅞-12¼ in.
That TÜV Rheinland LGA checked the ergonomics of both models, the mesh ef-122 and the slim-upholstered ef-102, against its own program 2 PfG 947. Certificate Q 60147554 was issued on May 7, 2020, with production under surveillance. It sits alongside the AGR seal for back health and the GS mark for safety: three documents, three different questions.
The mesh chair on a plastic base weighs 33.6 lb: 62.7 % plastics, mostly glass-reinforced polyamide, 28.6 % metals and 8.7 % glass fiber, with no wood at all. The upholstered chair on a polished aluminum base with Sedo-lift weighs 35.1 lb and shifts the balance to 44.5 % metals. Both figures come from the Sedus environmental product information sheets.
Yes, ordered under code 6044: the chair is upholstered in One or Step fabric with the black membrane, and Sedus lists the combination as meeting UNI class 1.IM, the Italian upholstered-furniture classification. For a specific US code requirement La Mercanti checks the fabric test reports with Sedus before the order, since flame resistance depends on the upholstery build-up.
A se:flex on a shared floor gets cleaned more often than a personal chair. Five steps from the instructions for use, with the one thing that only the factory can do.
Dust and crumbs come off the se:flex membrane and fabric with a vacuum and a soft nozzle. A stiff brush pulls at the 3D knit; the vacuum does not.
Minor stains lift with warm water and a damp cloth. Sedus allows a mild detergent or its own cleaning foam and nothing stronger, on both the slim upholstery and the mesh.
Frame, armrest pads and base take a damp cloth. On a polished aluminum base of the se:flex, a dry cloth afterwards keeps the finish from spotting.
The gas lift rod is cleaned with a cloth, regularly. Anything beyond that on the gas spring is work for a specialist, according to the manual.
If a membrane is torn or the slim upholstery is worn through, it is not a cleaning job: Sedus states that backrest covers on se:flex are replaced only at the factory. La Mercanti arranges that return.
