Most office chairs come in a color name. The se:air comes in a color code. Sedus lists the five monochrome models with the standards a finish schedule can carry: clear white RAL 9016, ruby red RAL 030 30 30, sage green RAL 140 60 10, midnight blue NCS S 7020-R90B, and black. On each one the frame, the armrest supports, the 5-star base, the casters and the optional lumbar support are the same color, and the membrane matches; the white chair takes a silver-grey membrane. The armrest pads and the two levers are the only parts that do not follow: black on black, basalt grey on the other four.
Under the color sits a task and ergonomic chair that Konstantin Thomas (Sedus Design Team) stripped down to what a hybrid office uses. Seat and back are one knit, tensioned inside a polyamide frame with no seam showing and stiffer where you sit than where you lean. Kinetic Swing, the patented mechanism, takes its cue from how much you weigh and tensions the back to suit; the back opens to 18°, and what remains is two adjustments, one lever for height and one slider for the lock. Sedus' round figure is 26.5 lb (12 kg); the GS certificate rates it to 287 lb (130 kg).
Order it with gas lift 1513 and it becomes the counter-height chair: aluminum base, footring, seat at 26⅝-36 in. Order code 6044 and it becomes the fire-retardant chair, black membrane only. Its rooms, in Sedus' own list, are project rooms, hot-desking floors, home offices and the boardroom, where it doubles as the guest chair this range does not otherwise offer. La Mercanti enters the RAL and NCS codes on the finish schedule beside the desk and wall finishes, so the chair gets specified with the same rigor as the walls around it.

The standard gas lift adjusts continuously from 16½ to 21⅝ in (420-550 mm). The counter version swaps in a gas lift with a footring and an aluminum base and lifts the seat to 26⅝-36 in, which puts it at standing-height benches and reception counters. On the counter chair the casters are permanently braked and always soft, and the rating drops to 243 lb (110 kg).
No, and that is the point of it. The Kinetic Swing is Sedus' patented mechanism that reads the user's weight and sets the backrest resistance automatically, so there is no tension knob to turn. The back opens against that resistance, the seat tilts forward with a slight sideways motion, and a slider locks the back in the forward position for a rigid posture. Seat height and that lock are the only two controls.
Both surfaces are 100 % polyester, knitted to the shape of the frame so that, in Sedus' words, there is no waste, and made in Germany. The seat membrane is heavier than the back, 14.2 oz/yd² against 12.4 oz/yd², which is how the chair gets different degrees of hardness where the body needs them. The price list rates it at 50,000 Martindale cycles.
Yes: certificate 295490-410, valid from December 6, 2022 to October 19, 2026, under UL 2818. Sedus had it tested to ANSI/BIFMA M7.1 and it complies with ANSI/BIFMA X7.1 and e3-2019 credit 7.6.1, modeled in a seating environment with a ventilation rate of 876 cu ft per hour (24.8 m³/h). It is the standard GREENGUARD certification, not the Gold tier.
There is no separate guest or visitor model in the se:air range: Sedus offers the swivel chair, its counter version and the fire-retardant version, and lists meeting and seminar rooms among the chair's own applications. In practice the swivel chair takes both sides of the table, which keeps the room in one color. The rooms Sedus names include project rooms, hot-desking floors, collaboration zones and co-working spaces.
The counter se:air carries a 19⅝ in footring on a gas lift that only comes with the aluminum base. Five steps from the Sedus instructions for use, from the knurled screw to the braked casters.
