Stand a Tokyo composition against a wall. The seat with its back rises to 28.7 inches; the armrest rises to 28.7 inches as well. Quinti’s data sheet gives both elements the same overall figure, so the line runs straight across the row, no arm dropping below the back, no back climbing above it. On our page of Italian lounge sofas it is the series that carries one height for every element.

The line holds because both elements are cold-foamed polyurethane from top to bottom, foamed to a density Quinti calls suitable for comfort; nothing else is declared: no frame, no wood, no metal. The seat is 35.4 inches wide and 39.4 deep; the armrest is a 7.9-inch slice of the same depth, and rounded vertical sections, broad ones, shape the two alike.

Room by room, the same two codes change role. In a private office, one seat flanked by two armrests is the armchair the sheet photographs twice. In a lounge, several seats closed by an armrest at either end are the sofa Quinti photographs on the sheet. In a waiting room, an armrest slipped in after each seat makes separate places beside the guest seating of a lobby, and for public spaces the price list keeps a column headed IM. The modules are, in Quinti’s words, easy to transport, disassemble and reassemble. Design Gualtiero Sacchi.

La Mercanti draws the row as one block at 28.7 inches, so the client approves a line, not a list of parts.

FAQ

What does the Tokyo seat stand on?

On feet. The Quinti price list describes the seat as a fully upholstered armchair in cold-foamed polyurethane with a base on feet; the data sheet says nothing more about them, and neither the material nor their size appears anywhere in the documents. We do not fill that gap on a specification: it says «base on feet» as Quinti prints it. The only vertical figures declared are the seat surface at 17.7 inches and the overall 28.7 inches of seat and armrest alike.

Can a Tokyo composition be moved to another floor and rebuilt?

That is how Quinti itself presents it. Quinti describes the configurations as easy to transport, disassemble and reassemble, and the reason is in the parts list: a seat and an armrest, each its own piece, each fully upholstered. Quinti photographs the same two elements both as a row of four and as a pair of armchairs, which is what the sentence means: one set of parts, more than one configuration. How the pieces attach to one another is not described in the documents, so we do not describe it either.

Where does Quinti itself file Tokyo?

Under Hospitality. Quinti lists Tokyo in that category, and it is the only Quinti product carrying the name of Gualtiero Sacchi. Office and contract are not declared categories for Tokyo, so a specification from us writes the maker’s own word, Hospitality, and nothing broader. The data sheet adds only that the seat and armrest together form a system of two combinable elements, which is how the piece is described whatever room it ends up in.

How much shipping volume do the two elements take?

24.7 cubic feet for the seat and back element, 7.1 cubic feet for the armrest: the two figures from the Quinti list. Freight for a Tokyo order is quoted on those numbers multiplied by the count of each element, never on a sofa taken as a whole. Beside the volumes the list prints the weights, 66.1 pounds for the seat and 17.6 for the armrest, so the freight file for a Tokyo order holds four figures and no estimate.

Which Tokyo coverings use recycled fiber?

Three on Quinti’s card. One Recicle, category 3, is 100% recycled polyester declared for 100,000 Martindale cycles. Chili, also category 3, is post-consumer recycled polyester at 60,000 cycles. Glamour, category 5, is 100% recycled polyester at 80,000 cycles with the EN 1021-1/2 fire test behind it. The percentages come from Quinti’s fabric data, so a project that must document recycled content can quote them as printed, with the fabric name beside the category.

Looking after a leather Tokyo by Quinti: five steps from the data sheet

Quinti’s care notes for leather come down to a white cloth, plain water and patience. Five steps from the Tokyo data sheet, for the hides in categories 5, 7 and 8 of the covering card.

Dampen a white cloth

Tokyo in leather, whether Pelle in category 5, Premium Up or Elegance in category 7, or Pelle Seta in category 8, is wiped with a white cloth moistened with water and nothing else. The data sheet is explicit on the color of the cloth and on the absence of any additive at this first stage, so the cleaning kit for a Tokyo row starts as a single item.

Use leather products as directed

Where water is not enough, Quinti allows quality products made for leather, applied according to the instructions of their own manufacturer. The sheet names no brand and no formula; the rule to follow is printed on the product’s label, not on the sofa. A product that asks to be left on, rinsed or buffed is used exactly that way.

Try a hidden spot first

Before any product touches a visible surface, test it on a part of the seat or the armrest that nobody sees. Quinti asks for this in every doubtful case, and the instruction holds for all three hides on the card: the category 5 Pelle, the Premium Up and Elegance of category 7 and the Pelle Seta of category 8.

Wait twenty-four hours

After the test, leave the spot alone for at least 24 hours before judging it. The waiting time is written into the Quinti notes with the words «at least», and the same sheet pairs it with the test on a hidden part: the two instructions go together. Only after the full day does the same product go onto the rest of the seat.

Treat the hide as delicate

Quinti closes its notes with one sentence: leather is a delicate material. On Tokyo that covers the full-grain hides of 0.047-0.055 inches in category 7 and the aniline-tanned Pelle Seta of 0.071-0.079 inches in category 8, as well as the bovine Pelle of category 5. None of them is treated with anything the sheet does not list.
