Picture a lobby where a screen 61 3/4 in tall stands on its own base beside the sofa, either upholstered or built in wood. That screen belongs to Node+, a range Ben van Berkel / UNStudio designed for LaCividina in 2021 and the maker presents as a toolkit of seats, backs and dividers for “micro-architectural systems”. LaCividina is direct about what the dividers do: they give shelter and protection. The tall model is 41 in wide upholstered and 40 1/8 in in wood, and it shares the lineup with two lower heights, so a lounge can be enclosed in stages instead of walled off.
For a project specifying Italian lounge seating, the core is the sectional itself. Five seat units, every one 16 1/2 in high: a square 35 3/8 × 35 3/8 in, a 70 7/8 × 35 3/8 in rectangle, an island 70 7/8 in square, a half-island unit curved on one end, plus the luna, a half-disc seat 35 3/8 in across and 17 3/4 in deep. Upholstered backs 28 3/8 in high and 7 1/8 in thick go wherever the plan needs them, because LaCividina lets them be positioned freely. The frame is solid fir and beech, beech plywood and painted steel, over high-density elastic webbing.
Moving out from the wall to the middle of the room, the rest of the lineup reads like this: sofa, dormeuse and systems as the three named versions; acoustic backs 46 1/8 in tall with masonite panels; the two lower screens; oak or Fenix shelves; round side tables in natural ash; extra pillows; and USB or power-and-USB outlets on request. In a lobby we pair it with chairs for waiting guests, giving the reception area somewhere to settle in. La Mercanti marks each screen on the floor plan with its height.
Let us know which finishes you'd like to explore
It is a half-disc seat, 35 3/8 in wide and 17 3/4 in deep, listed as code 1304. LaCividina calls it luna, the Italian word for moon, which is the shape you see when you look down on it.
Two sizes: 55 1/8 × 10 1/4 in (code 1320) and 27 1/2 × 10 1/4 in (code 1321), both 3/4 in thick. The price list gives oak or Fenix as the materials for the shelves, the surface on which, according to LaCividina, work becomes possible.
Three: ash left natural, ash stained graphite and ash stained white. These are the finishes that the LaCividina price list and product sheet give for the base of the whole collection, from the square seat to the luna.
Fire-retardant polyurethane foam that resists deformation, made in differentiated densities and combined with polyester fiber. That is how LaCividina describes the padding of the whole collection.
Yes. LaCividina states that the product is available made to measure, with a quote provided on request. Sizes outside the standard codes are therefore priced case by case by the maker.
Node+ comes with seven padded back types, each under its own code. Five steps to write them into an order so every seat gets the back drawn on the plan.
Before naming a single code, count how many backs the floor plan shows. Node+ padded backs stand 28 3/8 in high, are 7 1/8 in thick and come in seven types.
For straight edges use code 1310, which is 35 3/8 in long, or code 1311N at 70 7/8 in. Write each one against the seat it sits on in the plan, one line per back.
Code 1312N is a single back shaped like a U, measuring 77 1/8 × 38 5/8 in. It counts as one piece, so give it a line of its own on the order rather than splitting it.
Corners are ordered by hand. Code 1313 is 38 5/8 × 38 5/8 in, left or right; the longer corner, 74 × 38 5/8 in, has separate codes, 1315N for left and 1316N for right.
Last comes 1317N, a loose padded back 25 5/8 × 9 7/8 in and 10 1/4 in high. LaCividina lets backs, arms and cushions be positioned freely, so it goes wherever the plan still needs support.
