Designers who send their own material know the question that stalls a job: how many yards does this piece actually take. On Asso the answer is already on the page. i4Mariani prints an upholstery quantity beside the individual codes — 8.50 yards for the 48″⅞ armchair, 14.50 for the 80″⅜ sofa, 21.90 for the 135″⅜ three-seat, 2.75 for the ottoman. No estimating, no allowance built on a guess.

That habit runs through the family. A single-arm piece at 71″⅝ is quoted at 12.10 yards, the armless center unit at 63″ at 11.90, the 118″⅛ linear chaise longue at 15.70. Put a composition together and the take-off adds up from published numbers rather than from a rule of thumb, which is what a purchasing department needs when the fabric is bought separately and shipped to Italy. The same yardage column covers the pieces from which a row of guest chairs is assembled.

Behind those figures sit the ends, the middles and the turns: pieces that carry one arm at 40″⅛ and 48″, center units that carry none, two elements that take a corner, seating that lies down or runs straight, ottomans plain and quilted, and the steel units that stand in for an arm or a back. The same column runs through the whole range of lounge seating. La Mercanti prices the schedule, confirms the yardage with the factory and coordinates delivery to the floor.

When it is the right choice

  • When the fabric is supplied by the client and the take-off has to be priced before the order.
  • When a lounge grows piece by piece and later additions still have to align with the first ones.

When another solution fits better

  • Seat height is 17″⅜, so a coffee point or a high table calls for designer bar stools.
  • The smallest Asso piece is a 48″⅞ armchair, so for single movable seats see designer chairs.

FAQ

Does the published yardage cover leather as well as fabric?

The figure printed beside each Asso code is an upholstery quantity in meters and yards. Leather is sold by the hide and behaves differently, so the factory confirms hide requirements case by case. La Mercanti asks i4Mariani for written confirmation of the quantity for the exact composition before an order is placed.

Can client-supplied material be used on this system?

Asso is listed in fabric and in leather, and the published quantities are what a specifier needs to price material sent to the factory. Approval of the material, the way it is railed and any repeat are settled with i4Mariani in advance, which is the part of the process La Mercanti handles on your behalf.

What sits between the seat cushion and the frame?

A padded structure. The manufacturer wraps the poplar frame in CFC-free polyurethane foam at 30÷35 kg/m³, then polyester wadding and bonded plush, before the cover is fitted. The seat cushion itself is a separate foam at 35-40 kg/m³, and the back cushion is channelled feather.

Which pieces make the difference between a 31 and a 39 inch seat?

All of them. Every Asso element is listed with the number of seats it carries and which of the two widths they are. A three-seat sofa is 111″¾ with the narrower seat and 135″⅜ with the wider one, while depth, height and seat height stay identical, so the choice changes comfort and length without touching the geometry.

How does the quilted ottoman differ from the plain one?

Only in the work on the cover. Both measure 41″⅜ square at seat height. The quilted version carries linear stitching that the i4Mariani catalogue presents as an example of the factory's making, and it is ordered under its own code rather than as an option on the plain one.

How to write an Asso waiting area into a specification

Asso is listed among lounge seating, and its single-arm and armless pieces are what a reception run is built from. Five steps to a schedule that can be priced.

Fix the wall length first

Write down the clear run available, then the doors and sockets that interrupt it. Asso elements are 41″⅜ deep everywhere, so the depth is a given and the length is the only variable you control.

Choose the seat width for the room

The narrower seat gives more places on the same wall, the wider one gives more room per person. Decide once for the whole area, because mixing the two inside a single run changes the rhythm of the cushions.

Build the run from ends and middles

A reception bench is a left-hand piece, one or more armless center units and a right-hand piece. Asso lists all three families, which is what lets the seating stop exactly where the architecture stops.

Add the surfaces people need

Where visitors put a cup or a laptop bag, specify the table module or the side bookcase instead of a separate low table. Both are ordered in place of an arm or a back and stay inside the footprint already drawn.

State what is cleanable

Record in the specification that covers are removable on the seat and back cushions only. Facilities teams plan around that sentence, and it prevents a maintenance expectation the product does not carry.
