Order Klivia and the first line on the spec is how tall the back should be. Kastel draws it two ways: a high back reaching 46 7/8–51 5/8 in overall and a mid back at 35 3/8–40 1/8 in. Seat height, footprint, arms and mechanism do not change between them, so the choice is made by the room, not by the catalog. The taller frame goes behind the principal’s desk; the shorter one goes where a client or a colleague sits down for an hour.
It earns its place among executive office chairs through the build underneath. A technopolymer seat carries non-deforming polyurethane foam, the seat height adjusts from 15 3/4 to 20 1/2 in on gas, and the synchro-tilt moves seat and back together, sets its own tension and locks in three positions. Arms are polished die-cast aluminum finished with a padded top, and the whole chair is made in San Vendemiano, in the province of Treviso.
On a floor plan the pair sorts itself out. The high back belongs in the private office; the mid back is the one we put across the desk for guests and around the conference table, often on the AL4 four-star base with chrome glides instead of casters. Either back can take smooth upholstery or straight-line stitching. Five-star bases range from black, white or gray nylon to aluminum in polished, black or white finish, plus polished with a chrome column and chrome casters. Across an executive office suite a single cover can tie every seat together. La Mercanti marks on the plan which rooms get the high back and which the medium.

Kastel gives Klivia a footprint of 25 5/8 by 23 5/8 in, printed as the overall size of the chair. Allow that rectangle for every seat when you lay out a conference table or a pair of guest chairs in front of a desk.
A frame of curved plywood with a birch backing panel, padded with polyurethane foam that Kastel describes as non-deforming. The upholstery you choose, fabric or faux leather, goes over that foam, and the same construction is used on every version.
Yes, on three of them: black APS at Ø 26 in, white APW and gray APG. They appear next to the aluminum bases in the 2026 Kastel price list, and they are the only bases in the range made of nylon rather than metal.
Yes. Kastel’s fifteen collections for Klivia mix both materials: Planet, Skill/Secret, Extrema Ikon, Extrema AU and Valencia are faux leathers, while the other ten are fabrics, from 3D Fabric polyester to Poseidon.
No. Kastel itself warns that the images on its site are indicative only and points customers to the folder of real swatches. Color and surface read differently on a screen, so the cover for a Klivia order is confirmed with the physical sample in hand.
On Klivia the caster is set by the base rather than chosen on its own. Five steps match each Kastel base to the wheel or glide that goes with it.
Unless something else is specified, the five-star bases roll on rubber-coated, self-braking casters, Ø 2 1/2 in. This is the caster Kastel lists first for the chair.
The polished AL7 base, Ø 26 5/8 in, is the only one paired with smaller Ø 2 in casters. Choose AL7 and the caster size comes with it; every other five-star base keeps the larger caster.
Both are polished aluminum bases with a chrome column, and they roll on chrome casters. Specify either one and the shine carries all the way down to the floor.
The white-painted AWW base arrives with a white column and white casters, so nothing dark interrupts it. The color of the caster is part of the base code.
For some bases Kastel supplies black perforated casters, Ø 2 1/2 in, or black nylon glides on request. These are options rather than standard equipment, and not every base takes them.
